This is embedded into the courses to ensure you qualify commercially viable with skills that enable you to be work ready. At Ghost Academy we educate from a commercial perspective. All of our team have primarily a commercial background so that we know what the industry demands.

Ghost Academy’s students are women with multiple and often complex needs, including a history of offending and issues related to alcohol and drug use.

The women have significant barriers to entering the job market, sustaining employment and improving their general health & well-being.

The Academy’s women are amongst the hardest to reach and work with. Typically, they are disenfranchised and distanced from the employment market and achieving general well-being, due to issues related to education, health and personal circumstances.

They are often excluded from, or unaware of, support available in their communities.

The women Ghost Academy works with have a complicated range of issues and challenges, including: An history of offending; lifestyle and life chances affected by alcohol and drug use; domestic violence / intimate personal violence (IPV); physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse; and, often, physical and mental health illness.

Whilst there are a range of services available to support these women, they are fragmented, difficult to access and frequently delivered in a way that fails to engage effectively. Ghost Academy provides these women with a practical and engaging alternative to traditional support and FE routes; Ghost draws together a suite of services to help its women deal with related issues. It provides structure and meaning to the women students’ lives, in a supportive and caring environment.

This course covers the basic rules and structure of a commercial salon environment. This is a great introduction to hairdressing especially if a holistic approach would benefit you.

We focus on 2 units in particular as this will allow a smooth transition onto level 2 and also allow you to excel in an interview situation for commercial placement experience.

Your time with us from the beginning to the end of the course will be be spent focusing on you (self direction).

We will tailor the support package to your individual needs on advice from our positive experienced partners.

Level 1 is suited to everyone whether hairdressing is for you or not. It is a holistic course structured to enable the learner to achieve self confidence and positive self regard.

In week 10 of Level 1 we look at your progression on after your time with us. This will include filling out applications for jobs or further courses.

I hope we will have created a strong enthusiastic interest in the hairdressing industry at the end of the level 1 to entice you back to complete a Level 2 and go on to keep our fantastic industry flourishing but if not we will support your next step to success where ever that may be.

Throughout the course you will have access to all of our support partnerships such as Sexual Health, Mental Health, Domestic abuse, Probation, Self harm, Substance misuse, Benefit advice, Housing support, Parenting courses, Power of meditation, Anti-social behaviour, Gay, Lesbian & Transgender support groups, Justice of the peace, Debt management, Functional skills and Counselling Therapies.

We have spent many years finding positive links in each above department so we feel extremely confident that they each can offer solid advice and support

This NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing is the heart and soul training course that is needed to work in this exciting industry.

Our teaching team are all current meaning that we all are working in a commercial salon or own a salon so you will have the opportunity to learn from the best! We relate all skills to traditional, current and emerging fashion.

To be confident in any area we believe a learner must really understand and have a practical knowledge of why, when and how best to achieve the look. We encourage our learners to think for them self and not just follow a text book.

Learn to express yourself through the art of a hairdressing in a professional, competent and creative way! This Level underpins all the knowledge needed to start your hairdressing career.

Ghost academy uses the hook of an employable barbering qualification to engage hard to reach men with complex problems. The holistic approach provides a commercial employable NVQ Level 2 in barbering but also addresses underlying issues which are barriers to progression.

Issues our learners may face include substance misuse, offending, domestic abuse, lone parents, housing, self esteem, mental health, anger management and dealing with difficult family situations. We support our learners in a holistic way to increase self esteem and confidence and create a pathway to achieve positive progression.

We are aware securing employment is an important factor so the Ghost wellbeing team create and source opportunities to achieve this by writing CV’s written, support job searches, join onto targeted employment websites and we arrange interview skill sessions and practice interviews with industry professionals.

We choose to deliver this NVQ Level 2 Barbering Diploma because it provides the knowledge, skills and understanding to be able to secure employment in a Salon. This qualification is based on the Level 2 Barbering and National Occupational standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK’s leading professional hair associations (The Hair Council and British Barbering Association-BBA) as being fit for purpose to prepare you for a career as a barber.

Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a State Registered Graduate Barber (SRB) with The Barber Council. Our teaching team include an internationally acclaimed barber and artist.
